Back At It!

After a week and a half break because of Hurricane Harvey, all three Kikuchi girls were thrilled to go back to school yesterday. Miss Riley even slept with her back pack next to her bed! It was almost like another first day of school and everyone was excited to be back!

Since all three of us thrive on structure and routine, we were happy to return to some normalcy, and a great normalcy it is! Minus Riley wanting to wear the exact same outfit to school everyday (her third grade cutie shirt) the first 5 days of 3rd grade have been fantastic! I LOVE that Mrs Merrbach sends parents a weekly detailed email and uploads tons of photos on dojo every day! And of course Riley has the best of the best teaching her! I'm so thankful!

But all day I thought about and prayed about those who don't have normalcy to return to because their homes and/or schools have been flooded! Oh my heart still breaks for so many of my fellow Texans and I know we are absolutely not done doing our part towards helping!

I also had not gotten a chance to record two really fun things that happened the first week of school before Harvey. On the first day of school someone from the district came to Mahaffey and asked if there was a student they could interview about Klein ISD's mission of Promise to Purpose- every student enters with promise and exits with purpose. Keagan was pulled out of class to do the short interview and she was so stinkin cute! Her video clip was posted on twitter, the district website and other social media when an educational website picked it up and used it for an article about Klein ISD. She is the cutest and I love that she said in the clip that she wants to be a principal when she grows up!

And miss Riley had a little celebrity sighting after her neurology appointment at TCH the first week. She was able to meet the famous astros player Carlos Beltran and he was super nice to her! That was a nice ending to a much needed visit and discussion with Dr Clark about what a miracle Riley truly is but that she was having seizures so her seizure meds needed to unfortunately be increased. Besides being a little tired she has responded well to the change! Oh and of course she's been busy at therapy too!
