All Dressed Up

Between Red Ribbon Week and Halloween festivities the Keags and the Rys have been all dressed up this week!

These girls favorite red ribbon week dress up days were western wear, superhero and of course Hawaiian day! The day before western wear day we realized Keagan’s cowboy boots no longer fit. I thought I would just have her wear her running shoes but instead I spent two hours driving around town to find the perfect boots. But thankfully they were on a great sale so I felt much better about it! Rileys little hat just makes me smile every time!

I thought my two heroes dressed up in their batgirl shirts and capes was so stinkin cute!

Sometimes superheroes get tired too!

And when you are actually Hawaiian you take Hawaiian dress up day very seriously! Grandma Debbie brought several Hawaiian dresses with her from Hawaii so the girls had lots to choose from! So what better way to show aloha then to share your aloha ware? Keagan really wanted to match Avery so they wore the same dress and looked darling together. Lauren and Carley also borrowed dresses which meant that Riley was thrilled about matching Lauren who is so sweet to her!  Then at running club Friday morning Keagan passed out extra leis, kakui nut bracelets and flowers for everyone’s hair! I even wore a floral shirt and a flower behind my ear. Good times!

And then there has been the pre Halloween fun festivities!

All the kids were thrilled to wear their costumes to the Superstars baseball game Thursday night. Cinderella running the bases was SO stinkin cute! Cinderella and her sister Princess Leia were also really excited that Nana, Sa, Todd, Mrs Fields from Mahaffey, their friend Abby, Mrs Davis who was their art teacher from Brill and her grandson Adrian who I helped at Brill, were all a part of this weeks cheering section! After the game all the teams combined and we trick or treated around the bases with a big group of awesome kids and great families! We had a fantastic time! PS Keags didn’t wear her Leia boots and  Riley didn’t wear her crown and gloves because we were protecting them from getting ruined on the field.

And then tonight we had our annual ward Trunk or Treat at church which is always so much fun! It was a delicious chili cook off, fun trunk or treat full of lots of fun costumes and don’t forget the fresh kettle corn stand with a large screen playing the Astros World Series game! We did it all but Keagan doesn’t like that I talk too much with my friends at church, and it’s actually cold here today (it was 58 degrees) so both girls were freezing. They are such Texans! I loved it, the talking and the weather, but my babies were ready to come home and get warm. Good thing that just meant I got to watch the Astros game in my jammies. But it was definitely still a great night with my two princesses!

These two Kikuchi girls sure clean up well! And momma has actually enjoyed all the dress up days! That just leaves all three of us looking forward to Halloween on Tuesday. So We will be back at it soon. We will be all dressed up with definitely some where to go!

A Dumb Idea

My blood pressure is through the roof after watching game 2 of the Astros in the World Series! My adrenaline is pumpin like I just ran those bases! So to decompress, let’s blog

My sweet girls looked SO stinkin cute at school today! You know why? It was because I  was able to pick out their outfits! Why don’t they realize momma knows best?! Ok I’d like to think it was my doing but really it was just because it was western wear day for Red Ribbon Week. And man the Keags and the Rys sure look stinkin adorable in some hats and boots! Boots which Keagan’s Mom drove all over town yesterday to find for a good sale!

Riley’s little hat gets me every time! But so does my girls dressed in one of  their numerous cute outfits they own! This was another day where I actually got to pick their outfits. Aren’t they darling?!

But I guess these little people are nine and I am supposed to let them chose whatever they want to wear. Well that’s a dumb idea! Who thought of that?! But that dumb idea is one my girls subscribe to unfortunately. So do you know what that means? It means all their darling outfits stay in their drawers while they wear old T-shirt’s, yes old T-shirt’s. And Miss Keagan would like to wear one of her two pairs of black shorts every single day! And we all know Riley would wear her baseball shirt day and night if we let her. Oh and don’t forget that for quite some time now Keagan will only wear her hair in a tight pony, that’s where this all started. Aghhhh!

Yes I want my girls to grow up to be strong, independent women who are a bold force for good in this world, who make change happen and conquer anything set before them! But can’t they do all that in the clothes I buy and pick out for them? That seems super reasonable to me!

But instead this is what we’ve got.

I know they’re still so stinkin adorable aren’t they? But everything in me is fighting this whole “sporty” phase as Miss Keagan calls it. But apparently I have some strong willed, stubborn little women who came from a long line of strong willed, stubborn women. So T-shirt’s it is I guess. I broke down last week and bought a couple of cute T-shirt’s so hopefully they will at least wear those instead of just their old shirts they got at a VBS, camp, family reunion or as members of a club or something. Hopefully that will calm this crazy momma down! And yes I am fully aware of how ridiculous this sounds!

So now the rest of the blog post will be examples of the previously mentioned children in mostly the previously mentioned not so cute outfits.

Riley made spider cookies at school!

And bat cupcakes

Keagan saw he first opera at school, “Hansel and Gretel”

Riley did her thing and “washed” the dishes at Sa’s House.

They both worked out at their hotel

They went to spirit night at Spring Creek BBQ

They went to Buccees and fed their new obsession of tomato’s.

And many, many more! To be honest, these girls have sure accomplished a whole lot lately in old T-shirt’s! So maybe I should just be happy with that? Maybe I should be one of those good moms who lets their children be independent and instead of controlling what they are wearing they worry about what they are teaching their children to become.

Hey that is really not a dumb idea! Maybe I will try that!

Aloha

This past week, Keagan and Rileys nine days with their dad and Grandma Debbie who were visiting from Hawaii did not start out too well. On the girls actual birthday, Saturday October 14th they were scheduled to see their Hawaii family bright and early. Instead Miss Riley and I spent the day at the doctor and then napping because she tested positive for strep throat. At least Keagan spent the afternoon getting a new set of golf clubs, her first golf bag and then testing them out at Top Golf! That’s more like it!

After a rough start and some good antibiotics, by Sunday the week of partying began! The crew was all SO happy to see eachother after a full year and they were back at their favorite Marriott Residence Inn all together. Besides late nights, the hair styling situation, skipping two days of school and Riley refusing to take her medicine, they really had such a fantastic week! They did lots of swimming, go carts, arcade, put put, and shopping. They rode two different types of trains and Keagan did the trampoline bungee! They visited animals, cooked together and celebrated their birthday! Riley was thrilled to have them at her baseball game and her dad was her buddy on the field!  Their dad and Grandma even brought them lunch at school on Friday! It was fun, fun, fun for a full week of quality time with their dad and Grandma.

I know how truly important and cherished this time is for the girls and I am really so thankful they are able to do this! This quality time and these relationships could never be replaced and we all wish it could happen more often!

While they were off having a fantastic time, their mom had a good week as well. Besides REALLY missing my girls I got some great sleep but also stayed out WAY too late including playing Settlers with the Frenchs til 4am- twice! I had dinners with several friends and crossed some things off the to do list that had been waiting a while. You know I really loved the extra sleep but my favorite part of the week was getting amazing texts from Miss Keagan on her iPad! I was thankful to see the girls at school and all three of us were thrilled when they came home! They had an amazing week but we were all ready to get back together and back to our regular routine! Aloha!
