Life’s a Beach!

I mostly grew up an hour and a half from the beach and maybe went to the beach once every two years. I lived in Hawaii for heavens sake and maybe went to the beach once every three to four months. During quarantine of 2020 we have been to the beach way more then I ever have before! And it’s been fantastic! The breeze, the salty air, the sound of the waves, the water, the bright sun, the soft sand and the great company to chill with is always just SO good for my soul! The beach is always a good idea but especially as a safe escape from quarantine! And the last few weeks we kicked the beach trips up a notch with 2 little beach vacations that were both over the top fun, refreshing and just what we needed! Don’t worry we wiped everything down with Clorox wipes in our VRBO’s that were away from other people, wore masks and social distanced!

Our first three day, two night trip was with Miss Taryn and Reagan to Surfside Beach to celebrate the darling Reagan’s Sweet Sixteen birthday! We stayed in a cute little condo called the Ocean Villas in quite little Surfside and really had such a phenomenal time making memories together! We went to the beach two days in a row, we celebrated Reagan with her favorite brownies and ice cream, we built an epic sandcastle (that was mostly Miss Taryn and Keagan while I whined about it) and we sat just barely in the waves chatting for hours. We dressed Reagan up with a sash and tiara and even got fun party glasses and hats for all of us and those classic big number balloons. We played avocado smash, tried to avoid Karl Corona and slept in. Reagan and Keagan taught their mamas and we filmed a family savage Tik Tok dance! We drove over to Galveston and rented a five person bike to drive up and down the Sea Wall which was a super fun first for all of us plus great people watching and sites. We got souvenirs which was matching t-shirts for the three girls and a mermaid we named Shellfisha and laughed at for Riley. We also got yummy meals and a crazy amount of sand in Rhonda the Honda. Riley slept on the tallest blow up mattress ever and kicked me all night and Keagan missed a spot with sunscreen the first day so that when she changed swimsuits the second day she earned herself the nickname of Neapolitan since her back had a white, pink and brown stripe! Riley wanted Miss Taryn to shower her each night and Keagan pretty much did all our packing up because she wanted to film a time lapse video for it. On our way home we went to Brain Freeze and got the most over the top novelty yummy drinks to finish out all the fun. For three days we did laughter, memories and laughter! Surfside with the French girls was totally amazing!

Our second three day, two night beach trip was with Miss Heather and Calli to Port Aransas to celebrate the three girls graduating from elementary school! I have wanted to go to the little island town of Port Aransas which is about a four hour drive away for years! A category 1 hurricane hit two days before we got there but thankfully it didn’t get in our way at all. Besides the beach drawing me there, everyone drives around on golf carts there which I knew all three of us would absolutely love and I was right! We stayed at the Gulf Coast Cottage that was a small perfect little house that came with access to a six man golf cart which was everyone’s highlight of the trip! We drove that puppy everywhere! We even found chances for Keagan and Calli to get their turns taking a shot behind the wheel! Miss Riley didn’t want to drive, she just loved sitting in the second row behind mama with Miss Heather giggling the whole time. And Keags and Calli were in the back row mostly jamming to Hamilton songs! We drove it to the ferry pass to watch the dolphins jump, the huge boats pass and the silver fish scurry across the rocks. We drove it to grab dinners and go to the dolphin souvenir store where the three girls designed their own souvenir t-shirts and had them made. We drove it to the candy store to buy way too much candy, to all the fun places to take pics and to explore all over the little island. The beach was closed to vehicles because of Covid but with Rileys handicap placard we were able to drive on the beach which was great and allowed us to drive to the pier which was beautiful to walk out on to see the surfers and to the jetties to see the sea turtles! At the beach we got to watch lifeguards do their thing, we found sand dollars and let them climb around on us and had a crazy fly away tent. We rode the ferry twice, marveled at the oil rigs, played a lot of Cover your Assets Card game, had a crazy run in with Alexa and not the best luck with local restaurants. We hit some crazy weather on the way home but lucked out while we were there! We laughed so hard our stomachs hurt and made fantastic memories so I call it a second successful trip!

In between the two trips we did chores, made really hard decision about what school is going to look like next year by fasting and praying and then of course they changed because Covid changes things everyday. We swam a lot including a fun and memorable swim night that Henry and Keagan put together with their friends at the Hall-Browns house which had the kids swimming in the pouring rain for 20 mins. We tested out face shields and masks, had play dates with Calli and I had a crazy allergic reaction to new sunscreen that I had to get steroid shots for.

We still have sand in Rhonda the Honda. We have vacuumed her twice but she is holding onto some pieces. I prefer to hold on to the great memories instead of the sand but to each it’s own. Fun in the sun and the waves have truly made our quarantine summer 2020! And it’s not over yet cause we are headed back this week of course with some cousins! More happy sandy girls pictures coming soon!
