A Good Costume

The Kikuchi girls sure love a good costume opportunity or a dress up day! And we have had an abundance of them recently! It started off with the always fun Red Ribbon week dress up days at school and the cutest princess party for Activity Days where we talked all about what it means that we are Daughters of a Heavenly King!

We had our annual trick or treat around the bases night at Superstars baseball that was made extra fun with our Klein Ward YW being there to volunteer as buddies! As always, Riley assumes everyone was there just to cheer for her! And she loved having Grace and Claire as buddies and Gramas in the stands with Keagan cheering her on! Riley picked out an Evie from descendants costume for Halloween but ended up wearing her poofiest Cinderella dress to everything.

One night we went to the Scottie Social costume carnival at school put on by the PTO and another night to the Trunk or Treat put on by the administration and teachers. Both were moved inside because of weather but both were festive fun.

We had a fantastic time at the Klein Ward trunk or treat this year! Chili cook off, games, trunk or treating and this years addition of a small haunted house put on by the young men. The girls both had a blast and didn’t want the night to end! Keagan looked way too old and beautiful in her 50s girl costume and was all over the place with a pack of giggling girls. Riley as Cinderella was gorgeous of course but always on high alert for anyone dressed scary or with a mask so she stuck close to me all night.

And our final costume wearing was actually for the big one, trick or treating on October 31st. We went in the very packed and festive Inverness neighborhood with the Lakes, the Dana’s and the Speers again and what a fantastic night we had! After the last two years trick or treating in the rain we didn’t mind it being a little cold as long as we were dry! We went up and down many streets stopping at lots of friends houses like the Scharkoph’s and the Hudson’s and seeing lots of friends along the way as the candy piled up! Of course we stopped at the Skinner’s culdesac that is decorated to the max and then we finally made our way to the Sanford’s. They had a fire pit for s’more making and heat and even a Halloween movie in the garage. We partied with them for over half an hour before calling it a successful night!

And that trick or treating was after a not dressed up but still super fun day at school to celebrate. Riley learned all about pumpkins and carved one and Keagan loved the big 5th grade Spider Day. For the couple afternoons leading up to this we had helped cover the 5th grade mod with all kinds of spider decorations and then on the day they did spider math, spider stories, parts of the spider, spider books, etc.

Our last bits of Halloween fun to document was a Sunday afternoon carving pumpkins outside after church. Cleaning those pumpkins out is always harder then I remember but they turned out cute! Both girls carved both sides of their pumpkins that Gramas gave them for their birthday. Keagan had a dog and a cat and Riley had a cat and a jack o lantern. The day after Halloween we woke up to moldy, collapsed, ozzing pumpkins all over the kitchen table that Nana was nice enough to clean up for us while we dashed off to school.

And finally a fantastic Saturday we spent with the Reeves going to Uncle Bo’s pumpkin patch and swimming at the neighborhood pool. There’s not many places you can do both those things on the same day and we had a great time doing them!

But in true Kikuchi girl style there was much more fun mixed in between all of that! We got “booed” one night and had even more fun “booing” two friends houses, the girls had an absolute blast at the roller blading PE unit for 2 weeks and Keagan even considered it an extra birthday present. We rescued some dogs with Reagan and Miss Taryn one afternoon. We spent a lot of late nights cheering on our Astros in the playoffs and World Series. We even picked up trash with the Laurels in the woods one night! And finally Mrs Acosta threw Riley and Jackie a surprise birthday party in class one Friday!

And that FINALLY concludes just about the longest blog post ever!! My goodness we did a lot in just over 2 weeks since the girls birthday! We had a ton of fun but I think I need a nap after all that! Throw in daylight savings time and this momma is done! Now bring on all the gratitude and thankful November!!
