Thursday was the day of Pirates! Keagan played “Bluebeard” and Riley was in the pirate crew ensemble of their 5th grade musical. They did their first performance for the entire school in the afternoon and then another one for a packed house of parents and family Thursday night. Their music teachers Mrs Hatley and Mrs Harper worked very hard with the entire 5th grade and it showed! The show really was super cute! Keagan did great with all of her lines and Riley might have been the best dancer up there! It was so sweet of Grama Linda to come watch!
Since I am practically an understudy for all of Keagans shows because I read lines with her SO many times that so know them all, I end up picking favorite lines of hers. For this show is was “Fee, Fie, Fo, Fay, I smell the blood of a stowaway!” We transformed the girls shirts ourselves and of course Riley loved the pirate costume and slept with the sashes on and a death grip on that dang eye patch!
Friday morning after a special food drive Speedy Scottie’s running club, it was time for the annual Mahaffey Veterans Day program. I always love this program and it always brings me to tears! Keagan and Riley each had patriotic art displayed on the wall and they both donned their red, white and blue to sing in the choir! They performed two beautiful songs including “What Do You Say to a Hero?” Which had my tears flowering! Then the veterans parading thru the halls lined with clapping, cheering kids will make anyone cry!
Then Friday night and Saturday afternoon was the big shows of this weekend! Riley played Fairy Godmother #2 in the most darling cast of Cinderella! I mean the cuteness factor was bursting at the seams and Riley was just absolutely precious! She was thrilled to be with the other Fairy Godmother her friend Jane, waved from the stage, beamed her biggest smile and waved her wand proudly to “bippity, boppity, boo!” It was absolutely adorable! Keagans show choir Ovation performed before Cinderella and of course they totally rocked the house! Keagan had a blast and did amazing with a couple different solos. Both our favorites was her opening solo to “Old Time Rick n Roll!”
We are so blessed to have DPAC Texas right here in our community and for Keags and Rys to have these amazing opportunities to be a part of such a wonderful, fun, creative and supportive families! Mrs Shea and Mrs Rachel are just the most incredible women! We are so blessed by them and by the wonderful village that we have that showed up at shows to give the girls their love and support! Nana came which was huge and so did Gama Linda, Coach, LaBelle, Sa, Addie with David, Kellie with Justin, Mrs Taryn, Hudson Reagan, our neighbor RoxAnne and Riley’s teacher Mrs Acosta and her husband! We appreciate all of them so much!
I am super, super proud of Keagan and Riley, and not just because they both absolutely shined on stage! But because they set a goal, they put themselves out there, they showed up. They were determined to do it right and practiced, practiced, practiced. They were courageous and they performed! I’m incredibly proud and feel blessed at the chance to be their biggest cheerleader!
