Our celebrations really started out last Saturday. We had Avery over for our typical Saturday play date and we decided to venture out! We went to the nearby historical Wunderlich Farms for their Fall Festival for several hours and had a great time! Riley went in her rockstar costume from the day before and Keagan and Avery dressed as twins. We took full advantage of all the fun and went to explore the museum and historic houses, bob for apples, play tambourine in the band, get our faces painted, go on the hay ride, pet the goats, play the games, and shop at the vendors including buying the most amazing dehydrated apples I’ve ever tasted! The afternoon was good old fashioned, down home delight y’all!
Afterwards we got all gussied up for our Ward Trunk or Treat at church! I’m not a big Halloween person but there are 3 things I love about it and literally 3 things only. 1. My adorable kids in adorable costumes. 2. The actual trick or treating with friends. And 3. I love me a trunk or treat! We helped set up, played games, ohhhhed and ahhhed over all our friends costumes, took pictures, enjoyed the chili cook off and loved the walking around the parking lot to gather the candy that obviously Keags and Rys worked very hard for! Seeing lots of friends we don’t always see and the famous Hudson Kettle Corn was the cherry on top of what turned out to be a really fantastic day!
In Texas we do not really celebrate Halloween at school because a lot of people don’t celebrate it for religious reasons and we definitely don’t wear our costumes to school. But we lucked out this year because October 31st was the 50th day of school! When I made copies for Pre-K to dress up in 50’s attire it didn’t take us much to get it approved for the whole school to follow! So yesterday all 3 Kikuchi girls were 50’s girls at school! Keagan was the cutest pink lady I’ve ever seen, Riley was absolutely darling in her red poodle skirt and matching outfit all the way down to her poodle socks, and momma had rolled jeans, a scarf, polka dot hair tie and cat eye glasses. Most of the teachers and staff got into it too so our high jinks plus the trail of treats we followed all over the school including Meghans amazing cupcakes in our workroom and even more treats from the PTO made for really fun festivities!
And then it was time for the main event, our last costume change, our last here we go again, Halloween night! The weather was threatening all week to rain on our parade like it did last year, remember “here we go again?!” But as Keagan said “a little rain can’t stop our fun!” So I loaded up my own personal Greatest Showman who was darling and has the singing voice to make it legit, and my precious Everest from Paw Patrol who couldn’t be happier with all this dress up we’ve been doing and we were off to a fun dinner at Sa’s and then trick or treating with a big group of friends organized by the Lakes. It had rained off and on all day long but right when we were supposed to meet everyone at the Lake’s house to start, the rain stopped. Hallelujah! So in our very cute mob of about 25 kids of all ages plus their parents including the Speers and the Dana’s, we were able to hit at least 30-35 houses trick or treating and see lots of school friends before the rain started back up. And once it started it was no joke! Despite our big umbrellas all three of us were soaked to the bone pretty fast in a repeat of last year. Texas rain is serious rain anyways but this was quite a storm and ended up causing some flooding and brought tornado warnings! So we made our way to the Dana’s house where the kids poured out their goods and traded candy like every child should do because that’s what we did, and Jaime took me to go get my car in the pouring rain. We still had thr pleasure of trick or treating at the Hudson’s and the Sharkopf’s house and then we drove home in rain so hard I could barely see the road in front of me! Once we were safe at home and out of the bath and showers I realized maybe the rain starting wasn’t so terrible because everyone was home, safe, clean, cuddly and asleep by 8:30! And we sure made some fantastic memories y’all!
So not too shabby of a Halloween at all! I think we celebrated it to the max and did pretty good this year! I know two adorable 10 year olds that would agree. And now it’s on to even better holidays! Here we go again!
