From the time we woke up Keagan, Riley, Tess and Campbell, or as we call them “the littles,” were in the basement giggling and working on their play. Everyone else was upstairs chatting and laughing around a delicious breakfast of fresh bagels, cinnamon rolls and fruit. Once we got motivated we set off on our adventure. We bundled up a whole bunch of Texans who aren’t used to the 35 degrees outside and took the El into town. It was Keagan and Riley’s first experience on a train and one was leary and one thought it was SO cool. Keagan loved it!
We were quite the entourage stormin the streets of the city! As teenagers froze, littles skipped and giggled, Riley sat cozy in her stroller. We went first to check out the famous Macy’s Christmas window displays and then ventured inside Macy’s which was by far the biggest department store I have ever been in and went up to the 7th floor to see the gorgeous and ginormous Christmas tree! It was there that all the littles pretended to be Buddy the Elf on all the escalators and Maya put a lovely shade of pink lipstick on Kirks lips to highlight his horrible Movember mustache.
Then it was on to Millenium Park and the infamous bean, which can’t be missed especially because this is a first time visit to this great city for some in the family. Afterward we had a hard time getting situated for lunch at a really cool place called Eatly which is a half grocery store half food court of high end Italian food. But once we did it was some of the best food we’ve ever had! Sami and I decided our butternut squash ravioli with brown butter and sage was life changing! And then we walked all that goodness off with a long stroll down the miracle mile or Michigan Avenue. With an expensive stop for generous Uncle Tyler at Dillion’s Candybar of course! We walked back to the train and took another fun El ride back home. In all we walked over 4 miles and my out of shape booty felt it but even in my flip flops I wasn’t even remotely cold like a lot of the others. Keags wasn’t cold either because that girl has a built in heater and Riley was having too much fun to let the cold bother her!
When we got home to relax before the evening festivities of course the fun did not end! For about 10 whole minutes it snowed big beautiful flakes and all 3 Kikuchi girls had to catch a snowflake on their tongues! And then the littles performed their fantastic play in which Campbell was a wizard that killed Tess the queen to take over the throne but she was evil so the surprise ending was Riley killing Campbell to become the rightful queen! You know that goodness had to be documented!
After all that you would think that was enough for a great day, but we actually kicked it up a notch and went to see The Blue Man Group! What a fantastic show and our seats were literally the first and second row right in the middle! When there is a pancho sitting on your seat when you arrive you know it’s going to get interesting and it was! The whole show was extremely entertaining from the greatest chubby bunny marshmallow experiment I’ve ever seen to the awesome music and hilarious antics! To top it off Kellie was given a purse before the show that the Blue Men ended up using in the show, Kari was given one of their helmets and one of them literally crawled right over Riley and I. Riley had a hard time at the beginning of the show but she warmed up to the hilarious characters and ended up really liking it! Everyone else absolutely loved it minus Addie getting hit in the face with a steady stream of mushed up bananas! It was a fantastic time!
We ended the night eating Chicago deep dish pizza and sitting around their ginormous kitchen table playing Kirk’s question game which had us all deep in thought, holding back tears and laughing hysterically. Oh and somewhere in there Tyler seriously almost died by choking and Kirk had to do the him-lick and the littles took a little dive in the hot tub, minus Riley who was too busy getting cuddles from literally everyone! It was the perfect end to a really awesome day! And the best part is there is a lot more where that came from! See I just love Chicago and I REALLY love these people!
