High Jinks

Because of my great work schedule at the girls school of Monday, Wednesday and Friday, if Riley doesn’t have any doctors appointments then I usually use Tuesdays to scramble to do all the things and pretend I have my life somewhat together. Sometimes my Tuesday is successful and sometimes my life is still a total mess despite my feverish pace. Today was more on the successful side and I find myself having a little extra time to do something I have needed to do for far too long...catch up on the blog!

Since I last blogged weeks ago so much has happened! We have been up to our usual high jinks and some special tomfoolery. And because I will need to get back to all of that quickly I will now just dump all of our examples of livin the dream here. Yep, this will now be a bullet points kind of post.

Weeks ago we had the most incredible Saturday at Surfside Beach with the Klein Ward which is our church congregation! To make it even more fun, Heather and Calli rode with us and there were so many fun friends to play with there! Keagan boogie boarded with a big group of giggling friends for hours, Riley LOVED the waves with me, the ward provided a great lunch and the water was clearer then I have ever seen it there! Minus the massive disaster of a dinner we had on our way home at Carinos it was such an incredible day and will be a beautiful memory!

We recently spent a lot of other time with our ward family as well! Activity Days, which is a girls improvement club is scheduled at a better time now so we can attend more often and have loved the last two activities! Except for the fact that Miss Riley slept thru one of them at home. Keagan rocked volleyball one night with the young women and another night her and I participated (not too successfully on my part) in a fun hair braiding and hairstyle class. Thankfully Riley can stay home with Nana and go to bed early while I am serving those amazing Young Women while Keagan tags along. Man do I absolutely adore those Laurels that I get to volunteer with every week!

At church it was also recently my absolute favorite Sunday of the year! It was the primary program which is where the children take over sacrament meeting or our worship service to sing and testify of Jesus Christ! They all did such an incredible job thanks to their awesome leaders and sadly it was Keagan and Riley’s last one as they will join the youth ministry in January. It was all amazing but my favorites were Riley working so hard to do the sign language to the song “Love One Another” and Keagan singing beautifully in a small group chorus. I could pick out her gorgeous voice in every song. The girls each had a part to say. Grama Linda helped Riley who got shy at the very last minute but had a beautiful smile and Keagan was so poised and beautiful. Here were their parts...

Their cute class and amazing teachers!

A couple Saturdays ago we had a really cool experience to go to The Compassion Project with the Whitney family. It was a small museum type setting that showed us what growing up in poverty in a third world country could be like and provided great perspective!

We had a really fun dinner with the Fosters one night while we watched the cougars win!

After 28 years of friendship I was more then happy to dress up 80s style to celebrate Kelly Scharkoph’s big 4-0 birthday and had a fantastic time!

We have definitely been going thru growing up pains of 5th grade girl drama but have had fun play dates too. And Speedy Scottie’s running club is back up and at it for our 4th and final year of Friday morning fun!

Choir is also back up and running, Culture 4 Caring starts tomorrow morning and Keagan is anxiously waiting for student council elections to begin. We helped the French’s move a little bit and had a fun house warming dinner with the Fosters there. And Taryn, Sa and I had an awesome afternoon together at the temple one day that I will cherish forever!

This past Saturday we went to the Harris County Precinct 4 Civic Day with Miss Heather and Calli and had a total blast! Each girl caught 2 catfish, we played yard games, did crafts, pet snakes and ponies, met our civic leaders, looked thru telescopes at different parts of the sun, played on the playground, did archery and even made our own hay ride out of a shuttle! My favorite part was that the same archery guy that helped Riley months ago at a similar event was so kind to help her again and Keagans bravery with the fish including getting its blood all over her leg and not caring!

We ended that hot day by going to the new and incredible Memorial Northwest Pool! I’m hoping we will have a lot more time there next summer!

Superstar Baseball is back and my baseball player is thrilled! It was so fun to start out the season with my Laurels and the priests volunteering as buddies for their Thursday night activity! Riley got to be buddies with Sister Williams and Abby! Plus Grama Linda, Bishop Hoff, Jill Carey and Marisa and Mason Byers we’re there as cheerleaders so Riley was convinced she was the big star of the whole show! It was such a great night!

And although it is hard and we sometimes struggle to do it, I am SO thrilled that we are still consistently doing the Come Follow Me program every week and learning out of the Nee Testament together at home every Sunday afternoon or sometimes another random night. What a blessing this has been for all three of us!

Riley and Keagan with the armor of God on!

But without question my favorite times and memories made since the last time I blogged is the in between and every day stuff between me, Keagan and Riley.  It’s the time the three of us have together in the car chatting, joking or singing at the top of our lungs. It’s the yelling contest we had or the funny voices we do. It’s our telling each other jokes or pretend secrets. It’s Riley laughing hysterically at farts, Keagan showing us AFV videos and its us scaring each other on purpose. It’s our family prayers, cuddling and being ridiculous. Or in other words it’s our straight up high jinks and flat out tomfoolery. Yes we are back to that and frankly I’m afraid we always will be. I mean I make it sound perfect here and it is very far from that! But it’s beautiful, messy, hard and amazing. I guess that’s just how so like it.
