Camp Kids and More!

It’s been two weeks of two of the Kikuchi Girls favorite summer traditions! Week one was the amazing Faithbridge VBS (vacation bible school) and week two was the incredible Camp Buckaroo! Y’all two weeks packed full of SO much fun and SO many awesome people!

Keagan and Riley have been going to Faithbridge VBS since the summer before kindergarten and they just absolutely love it! This year was no exception to that since they got to do it with the Fab 5- them, Avery, Audrey and Lauren and lots of other friends we love and some we haven’t seen in a long time! But, it will be the last year they are able to go because they are now too old, and that breaks my heart a little! Their favorite part is always the amazing songs and dances that go along with them! But they love the games, crafts, bible lessons, and laughs with their friends too! Oh and don’t forget how much they each love the crazy dress up days! This year the temporary red hair dye we used got everywhere and we are still seeing traces of it pop up in the car, at home and Riley’s scalp! We were extra blessed this year as Riley’s assigned one on one was our favorite Mrs Brown who we love so much from school! We really appreciate all the incredible people that made these VBS’s possible for all these years and this beautiful Methodist church that has always welcomed us! It was a really fabulous week learning all about and celebrating that Jesus is The Game Changer!

Camp Buckaroo is such a special place that the girls have been loving since 1st grade! It’s a weeklong day camp for children with special needs and their siblings put on by Easter Seals Greater Houston. It’s a smaller camp so they get lots of attention and pack in so many fun things! The girls are each assigned a buddy to hang out with for the week but there is also lots of really great volunteers to help and love them! Keagan was with our friend Megan again this year and did great and Riley had a sweet new friend named Kinsie. Through out the week of course there was lots of singing, dancing and playing but they did so many amazing things like karate, yoga, Zumba, pet therapy, crafts, mad science, a scavenger hunt and a talent show where Riley danced to “Happy” and Keagan sang “Fight Song.” Also the snake guy and CrocodilE Encounter came so they played with snakes and alligators! So did Muffie the Clown, Tom the fun band and the Museum of Natural Science! It was an amazing week and yesterday each girl received an award. Riley’s was Most Stylish for her tutus and bows and Keagans was president of Leadership. We just love Camp Buckaroo and all the incredible people that make it possible! As every year the girls make a scrapbook and lots of these pictures are taken from those.

And because we are crazy, that is not the only fun we had in the past two weeks! There was so much more! Especially the week of VBS because VBS was only from 9:30-12:30 so we had the whole afternoon to fill! Hands down the most exciting thing we did was something Keagan has wanted to do for a LONG time! She actually worked really hard and did a lot of chores to earn this party with her besties and sister. For the party we did the Eat It or Wear it challenge. So Avery, Audrey and Lauren came home from VBS with us one day. After lunch I took them to HEB and they each picked out 3 items. At home I put each item in a brown paper bag, numbered those, rolled out a tarp and gave the girls cheap T-shirt’s to wear that they could throw away afterwards with the tarp. Each girl took a turn to draw a number out of the bowl that corresponded with a bag. Whatever was in the bag they had to decide if they were going to eat it or wear it! If they decided to eat it then they got to pour some of it on each of their friends heads! If they decided they just couldn’t eat it then they had to wear it so their friends got to pour it on their heads! It was disgusting and hilarious at the same time! They were covered in everything from cottage cheese, spaghetti sauce, sweet and sour, Carmel, tomato soup, cookie dough, Caesar dressing and much more because there were 20 items total! In the end I brought out the hoses and shampoo to wash it all down and let the girls wash it all out several times! Some of the girls liked it more then others but both Keagan and Riley had a blast and all the girls definitely made a very unique memory!

We also went to Sawmill Pool with Mrs Heather and Calli and were SO thrilled to run into Tristan there! We had lunch at Cici’s Pizza with the Krenek’s Ostermann’s and Avery one day, an had a play date with Avery. We tried something new with Filipino food, had a fun night eating Brazilian food with the Fosters and getting Crave cupcakes and Keagan loved hanging out with the Young Wonen playing glow stick tag!

On Sunday we begrudgingly attended a going away party for our beloved Monson family who we love and will miss SO much! And we had a whole afternoon with our darling Izzy Monson and Mrs Taryn eating at Chick fil A, swimming and playing cards! And Mrs Taryn and I got the chance to hand make the cutest Texas lazy susan for that awesome family too!

We spent some time with the Texas Ginn’s at their house before they move to Austin, had a big family dinner at Nanas which was so fun and then celebrated Kellie’s big 20th birthday! That night Sa gave Riley the cutest pony which is a rare thing for the girl who needs to keep her hair short and she devoured her first rib!

So after all of this we are doing absolutely nothing today which is Saturday and gearing up for the next week of fun where we take this crazy train on the road! Stay tuned for that! Meanwhile I will be laying on the couch with dreams of not having to make two ten year olds do chores and not pester one another. A girl can dream!
