Give Me a Break

The girls and I have been out of school since a half day on Thursday. Before that I was zombie-ing my way thru til the last day and went to bed very early on Thursday without setting an alarm! Now we are sittin pretty in a MUCH needed break from real life! That is one of the best parts of working in a school is I keep the same schedules that my girlies keep and it’s especially wonderful on extended breaks like this one!

Up until Thursday we were still going strong on the fun, contributing to my downright exhaustion. No homework the last week meant a fun play date with Avery on a school night, lots of treat deliveries, a luncheon at work, super fun caroling for Keagan and I with the youth including caroling at our own house, Keagan doing the afternoon announcements for StudentCouncil and the much anticipated holiday class parties. At those parties Riley decorated rice crispie treats, a Christmas tree and a gingerbread house as big as her, played a bunch of games and got Christmas tattoos on her hands! Keagan did a service project by writing a letter to the troops, had treats and played a bunch of games as well. By Thursday afternoon we were all played out and ready for the break!

Thursday night we crashed and after sleeping in on Friday we were ready to do this Christmas break right! Keagan has been our family holiday baker making butter cookies, a chocolate cake and chocolate chip cookies so far! And miss Riley and I are happy to be her taste testers! Friday afternoon Miss Taryn and I surprised the kids with a snowball fight, Texas style of course which means we had to buy the snowballs from Bahama Bucks! Keagan invited Lauren, Reagan invited Anna and Hudson invited Byron and Maddie and we had a complete blast! Everyone got pelted, got someone good, ran and laughed hysterically! I stuck a whole snowball down Keagans shirt which led to her doing it to me several times and smashing one in my face while pretending to take a selfie with me. We really all had a ridiculously great time!

Friday night Miss Taryn made us awesome Indian food for dinner and then joined us and Lauren by going to the Trail of Lights in Tomball that told the beautiful story of Christmas! We had hot chocolate and enjoyed all the lights and of course the greatest story ever told! We then drug Taryn and Lauren along on our Christmas light hunt and found the most hilarious ditto house. And we finished up the awesome day with a trip to see Gramas and Coach and of course we love all her fun Christmas traditions we get to play with every year! And it’s pretty great that Riley is 10 and Gramas still can rock her to sleep!

We took it easy Saturday morning, during the day I braved HEB and Costco while Taryn was SO nice to watch the girls and then we had the best night ever! We met Taryn, Reagan, Hudson, Byron and Maddie at the affordable senior living center that we went to early this month to serve and we caroled thru the whole building! It was fantastic! We only had one lady close the door in our faces and we totally made 6-7 people cry! We got lots of smiles, even some hugs and it was absolutely wonderful and filled my heart! Afterwards we went to meet the Fosters at BJs who came straight from the airport because they had just picked up Sami! It was our traditional Christmas Adam dinner out since Christmas Adam is on Sunday this year. After dinner I finally took the girls to Prestonwood to look at lights like they’ve been begging to for weeks! It really was an awesome night!

Today we were blessed to be at the most beautiful Christmas sacrament meeting talking about the Living Christ and that “Christmas” literally means more Christ. We had family dinner with the Fosters, got some cuddles in with Sami and then picked up Auntie Jenn who is in town! We drug her all the way out to Magnolia to the Gullo property that is acres decked out in a massive hodge podge of Christmas lights and decor. It was super fun and we knew it would be because we love Christmas lights and Auntie Jenn makes everything fun!

I am unbelievably grateful for this break and not because I was absolutely exhausted and was thrilled to not set an alarm for a little while. I’m also thrilled to do the two best things ever which is make memories with my babies and focus on the Savior and His incredible gift to all of us! Tomorrow is Christmas Eve so I get to do a whole lot more of those two things and I sure am excited! We are making the most of this break and the best is yet to come!
