Kikuchi Collections

The girls and I like to play the question game. We mostly play it in the car or while eating and I’m proud to say we’ve uncovered some pretty good stuff about each other this way. At least 10 times, either Keagan or I have asked “what is your favorite thing to do?” Riley’s answer is usually eat, laugh or smile and Keagan’s answer changes every time from singing, gymnastics, play with friends, etc. But such a simple question has stumped me each time. My first thought is always to answer “sleep” because no matter the time I’ve probably been yawning during the game. But just yesterday I finally thought of the answer that has been alluding me.

My favorite thing to do is collect happy memories with the ones I love, especially with my two girls whom I love the most! That’s my favorite thing to do, collect memories instead of things! I would so much rather have a story to tell then a thing to show!

We have recently added some pretty exceptional memories to our collection. These memories are chalk full of good people and lots of love and inspiration, so pretty much the best kind of memories there are! Yesterday was Special Olympics at Mahaffey. Obviously Miss Riley has been so excited for this day but honestly so have Keagan and I! Riley barely slept the night before and couldn't get her Special Olympics shirt on quick enough in the morning! The girl was over the top excited and the event itself totally lived up to the hype!

Our PTO does an unbelievably outstanding job at putting this event on, led by the great Dede Ostermann. This year they made personalized water bottles and bags for each athlete, which there was 15. They put together 9 stations of things for the athletes to do and got the Student Council to make signs and help run the event. They even got sponsors who contributed for trophies, medals, prizes and of course snacks! It really is quite a special time! I was glad Keagan was able to slip out of class and enjoy the last hour of the day to have fun herself while she helped her sister and cheered all the athletes on. We were also so blessed that Gramas was able to come which put it totally over the top for Miss Riley!

Besides receiving her trophy and medal which Riley could not wait for, I think she also loved the parade to the national anthem and pledge in the beginning. But when it came time for awards the girl was so pumped she stood up with each of her friends to cheer when their name was called. And after receiving her own trophy she held it up for everyone to see and didn’t even want to put it down in order to eat her snack!

Yesterday was a fantastic memory to collect with so many of our school family and thanks to some really awesome PTO moms that we love! I’m very proud of our Special Olympics young athlete!

And man have we collected some fantastic memories on Thursday nights this spring! Superstars baseball has been absolutely amazing! Spring season has been even more fun then the fall was! Maybe that’s because this season Riley got a real jersey that she always wants to wear, or because the weather has been perfect. But, more likely it’s because of all the incredible people there! It’s the incredible kids that play, all of whom we really love! It’s their amazing parents who inspire me and also get me in so many ways. And it’s the awesome fan club members that we have come to cheer Riley on including Nana, Mrs Kelley, Mrs Merillat, Mrs Brown and Dawson, Mrs Mills and her family, Coach Sohrt and his family, Miss Taryn, the whole Monson family, Sister Carey, Sister Gruewell, Mrs Shea, and others I’m probably forgetting. We have seriously felt the love and hopefully they all felt the inspiration! But even better then fans is volunteer buddies who come to help each player. And we’ve had so many amazing teenage friends who have come to do that including Reagan, Elle Gruewell, Halie Williams, the Monson boys, the Little boys, the Carey’s, the young women of Gleannloch Farms ward, girls from Keagan’s musical, and probably more that I’m forgetting again. We were blessed by these teenagers willing to give up their time and comfort zone and I have no doubt that they were blessed too! Thursday nights at Klein park really are a very magical evening and now some Crown Jewels in our collection of memories for sure!

Ok seriously did you see all those pics?! They are each a TON of amazing moments. They are souvenirs or mementos for the most amazing memories that I’m so thankful we have! They are all prized possessions to collect and cherish and they will be cherished! Sweet memories will never be forgotten and so will the love we felt and the people we loved! Can’t wait to see what we will add to our collection next!
