We left Wednesday morning and even had so much fun on the road! We had Claire, Laynie and Blaine in our car so there was lots of chatter and laughter. We all made a small detour to go to the largest gas station in the world which is of course a Buc-ees! Is it even a real road trip in Texas if you don’t stop at Buc-ees? So totally worth it!
Then it was off to the Natural Bridge Safari drive thru park! We fed some animals and got to look at a whole lot more but the lasting memories came at the end of path. Keagan had been trying to build up the courage to feed an ostrich like I did the last time we were there. She was brave enough to get her bag of food out the passenger window but instead of feeding the ostrich he bit her finger! Before I knew it she was in my lap on the drivers seat and the ostrich was looking around the car for food! When he didn’t find any food, just lots of kids screaming we thought he was going to move on to the Whitney’s car behind us. But instead he found Keagans beloved AirPods that she bought herself and tried to eat those! He had them in his mouth several times before dropping them on the ground amidst a lot of screaming! Thank heavens Mr Kyle pulled his van up right next to the ostrich and with a lot of yelling and honking we got him to finally go away! Keagan quickly grabbed her discarded AirPods and finished off a memory we will never forget!
Then it was on to our hotel right on the riverwalk, the Drury Plaza. It was in a very old bank and had some fun and some interesting features. Overall it was a great spot and we appreciated the location, the free breakfast and comfy beds. We explored the hotel and then ate dinner there before heading down to the riverwalk. It happened to be St Patrick’s day so the riverwalk was alive and exciting. We all loved the hour long riverwalk boat tour, the perfect weather and all the entertainment! Then it was a late night pizza party in Whitney’s hotel room before bed!
Thursday was Six Flags day! Oh what fun! For the first half of the day Chelsea and I got to just hang with Riley and Blaine and do some smaller kids rides and a show while Keagan went on some serious rides with all the teenagers and Mr Kyle! She loved Goliath and the Screamer! After we met for a carousel ride and a chaotic but comical lunch, I took Keagan, Riley, Claire and Laynie to do another rollercoaster! Riley and I didn’t do the ride itself but the others loved it! Then those sweet girls made Riley’s whole day by going on a train ride with her! We topped the day off with an awesome fireworks show, a late night McDonald’s run, and pure exhaustion after a million steps. With it being spring break the lines were very long but we had fun waiting, the weather was perfect and we can’t wait to go back since it was such an awesome deal for season passes!
Friday morning after breakfast, while I was on a conference call with the new hospice company for Nana everyone else went to swim in the indoor pool like the kids had been dying to do. Afterwards we checked out of our hotel and headed to the fun Market Square. We walked around the flea market, enjoyed the weather and people, had a very yummy Mexican lunch and waited a very long time in line for the cutest caricature posters! They had the best caricature artist I had ever seen and she was worth the wait! They were the perfect souvenir for all of us but especially for Mr Kyle since it was his birthday. The drive home was much more quiet then the drive there since everyone was exhausted. And a dinner at Buc-ees topped off a fabulous trip! We had three awesome days with some of our besties and it was just what the doctor ordered! Thank you San Antonio and Spring Break 2021!
