Rooooooaaaaad Trip! Oh man we had SO much fun!! Mrs Heather and Calli joined us for such a fun trip from Wednesday to Friday last week! The details of the trip had been a surprise for the three girls until the night before. Keagan started the trip off with a funny joke inviting Calli’s chocolate boyfriend on the trip with us! Then out first stop was a fun treat for lunch on our way at In n Out! So yummy! On our three hour drive I just had to pull over and take a picture of the girls in the bluebonnets because they made me SO happy the entire trip! It was a little hard to pull them away from watching Frozen 2 in the car but they cooperated. And of course no Texas road trip is complete without a trip to Buc-ees where the three girls got matching shirt souvenirs!
Our first night stay was at such a great place! We stayed at Geronimo Creek Retreat in Seguin, TX and we stayed in a giant tepee! Oh my goodness it was cool! It is considered “glamping” instead of camping which I’m just not too good at. It is similar to camping but includes a clean bathroom, air conditioning and beds to sleep in. Sounds good to me! The tepee had two queen beds and a pull out couch so it could sleep all of us! Once we got moved into the tepee we got our swimsuits on and headed to Geronimo Creek where Keagan and Calli tried kayaking for the first time! A spider in the kayak cut that a little short but provided everyone on the dock with a great laugh! Then it was onto the rope swing which Keagan loved! Riley was happy to watch and laugh along with everyone.
Thanks to Yelp we found great restaurants the whole trip! Wednesday night it was a darling local place called Blake’s Cafe in McQueeny, Texas that was delicious and charming! After dinner we went to Walmart to gather supplies for a camp fire and s’mores! It was great fun to sit around our fire to chat, make s’mores, look at the many, many stars, swing in the hammock and really enjoy the night together! I guess we all slept somewhat decently but had several trips outside to the bathroom in a separate building. At least Keags and I enjoyed the view at 3am!
We were sad to leave our tepee, not before Keags had a little hammock incident. But we headed to our second destination which was San Antonio. Once we got there we headed straight to the stunningly gorgeous San Antonio LDS temple. We loved exploring the beautiful grounds, taking photos, feeling of the spirit there, and even chatting with one of the care takers to get some history of the building! I’m so glad we made this stop! That makes 12 temples Keags and Rys have seen and I lost count for myself.
For our San Antonio stay I had looked for a hotel with very specific requirements. I wanted it to be a Drury hotel because they not only come with breakfast but dinner too, one that had a room that could sleep at least 5 and an indoor pool of course! That great hotel was very close to the temple so after a delicious pizzeria lunch where I got my girls to try gnocchi for the first time, we checked in and headed almost straight to the pool! We had such a blast with the pool and hot tub to ourselves part of the time! And we even enjoyed fresh popcorn and might have broken the popper just a little.
After much needed showers for everyone, we had dinner at the hotel including an extra treat. Back in the room we had fun playing Funky Chicken and the Root Beer Float game before going to bed at a decent time in very comfy beds. Apparently Keags and Calli has stayed up until 1 am in the tepees and it showed. But Mrs Heather and I are just suckers for those cute giggles from these cute girls!
The next morning we woke up early for that free breakfast but then we were lazy around the room. The girls played and we even let them run an errand or two to the front desk just the three of them which was huge! Keagan and Riley fought over the room key card in the most hilarious fashion and Riley sure celebrated every time she won!
Once we packed up we headed a little ways to the amazing Natural Bridge Caverns which I have always wanted to go to and the largest cave in Texas! We did the Discovery Tour which was a 3/4 mile trip but it was 180 feet below the surface and then 180 feet back up. It was amazing, awe inspiring, beautiful and intense! Keagan casually took pictures throughout the tour but it was much harder work for Riley and I! Luckily it was worth it! The views were absolutely amazing!
Hi
After the caverns, catching our breath and some souvenirs we grabbed a delicious lunch at a great outside wrap place run by people from Hawaii of all places. And then it was on to the last adventure of the trip! Natural Bridge Wildlife Ranch was a great way to go out with a bang! We took 2 hours to drive thru the safari in my trusty mini van Rhonda the Honda that was so good to us on the trip! We fed all kinds of animals and had so much fun! The best was Keagan feeding the tiny baby deer of some kind straight out of her hand and the ostrich that I was terrified of making quite the show of eating out of the bag I was holding while everyone died laughing and then Riley cried! At the end we got out to check out the small walk about zoo and see the giraffes up close before starting on our 3 hour trip home.

It was a short 3 day/2 night trip but we sure packed in a whole lot of fun in that time! It really was amazing and we laughed SO much and made so many fun memories together! It was a little weird to be on vacation when the world was starting to fall apart around us because of Covid-19. But we took all the precautions we could and were smart about it. Yes Nana I even used a paper towel to get gas! I promise! For that and so many other reasons this road trip will never be forgotten! Spring Break 2020 was pretty fantastic! Now what happened just after we got home was a whole different story! Coronavirus quarantine blog post coming soon.
