No Pretending!

Miss Keagan and Miss Riley have done a lot of pretend play this summer with eachother and with friends. It makes me SO happy that they are still playing like this! But I want to make something clear. None of the Kikuchi girls are pretending this summer has been perfect! This summer, just like our life, has been FAR from perfect! There has been tantrums, there has been whining, fighting, messes and more whining. There has also been a grumpy momma, an inpatient momma and a tired momma. But the great news is nothing has to be perfect to be great! Thank heavens! Let’s repeat that for the people in the back. It doesn’t have to be perfect to be great! So despite all the crazy, this summer is going great!

In fact, we are having the most amazing summer I can remember! It has been awesome so far despite not being perfect! We have had the right mix of lazy mornings, afternoon adventures or fun, and big and little chores still getting accomplished in between. We’ve made great memories together, got in lots of laughs and cuddles, spent time with the people we love and even made new friends! And y’all! My kids are actually sleeping in!! We are not waking up until 9/9:30 which is HUGE for us! And the best part is summer is not even over yet!

So now is the time for me to just dump all the fun things we’ve been doing in order to document it for the future. Cause I’m not taking any pictures of that crazy stuff, just the good stuff. So here comes a bunch of pictures because it’s been a while since I blogged!

Just like “Old Town Road” has been our summer song, the Sawmill Park Pool has been our spot! We have taken Avery twice, the Ostermann’s, and Mrs Heather and Callie several times! It’s super fun!

We spent the Ginn’s last day living in Houston with them! We hung out at their house, went to Crust for lunch, went swimming, and then Woodson’s for dinner. We will really miss them living 30 mins away but luckily Austin isn’t too far!

We had a fantastic time at the Showboat Drive In with the French’s and the Balkman’s who were visiting from Oklahoma! We recreated a photo from 2 years ago, were thankful for the cooler weather and absolutely loved Toy Story 4 despite our tears!

Both girls lost their first molars and Miss Keagan has been using her iPad to text me a ton! Our text conversations usually crack me up! A glimpse of our future.

Riley has been obsessed with all her Paw Patrol stuffed animals and American Girl doll Kate. She has also painted several things and Keagan has created in the kitchen! She set up a shaved ice shop and one day she made 54 chocolate cupcakes in order to take some to the new families that moved into our ward!

Speaking of those families, Keagan and Riley have made fast friends with Claire who just moved here with her family from France! We invited her to go bowling and come over to play and they all had so much fun and acted like they’ve known eachother for years! They performed a great puppet show of Frozen and had a blast! As a bonus, we also got to have lunch and hang out with the darling Grace who we all just love!

All squeezed into the photo booth!

One day we had an amazing time doing a service project with the Activity day girls! We went to the Lawrence Street Care Center where all the girls passed out homemade cards, sang several songs, several girls sang solos including Keagan and then we played bingo with the residents. I had so much fun being the bingo caller that I think I found my new calling in life! The resident sitting next to Keagan said “wow that woman doesn’t even need a microphone!” Keagan responded “yep! That’s my mom!” I pray she is always so quick to claim me as hers!

Both the girls had an absolute blast at Audrey’s birthday party! I appreciate so much when my friends love my kids like Miss Dede does! Riley was so thrilled to be included and I got a much needed break that night! They did a huge scavenger hunt and old fashioned races including Riley’s favorite the 3 legged race with Miss Dede.

We went with fun and random for the 4th of July this year. We seriously went to the old school traveling circus with Miss Heather and Calli. It was definitely entertaining and fun but all the reasons people hate this type of thing did bother us, especially the sad elephant.  We liked it but I’m thinking that was a one time deal.

Later that night we had a great time with the Reeves going to see the fireworks at Raveneux where we timed it just right and got the perfect spot but laughed at a car alarm the whole time. And then we popped our own fireworks and watched other people do theirs too at the Memorial Northwest clubhouse.

After an all day and super fun play date with the fab 5 where they just played pretend for hours and hours, we went to cow appreciation day at Chick fil A for dinner with Audrey and the Lakes. Also Keagan has been SUPER helpful this summer as we have gotten closets, rooms and drawers all cleaned out. She also has even given her sister a bath! That girl is seriously SO incredible!!

The girls both took the most darling sewing class from my friends Evelyn and Karen who are mother and daughter. They made the cutest little wallets! Keagan totally rocked it all by herself and I helped a very excited Riley who Karen figured out a Riley adaptation to using a sewing machine that was perfect! They are both so proud of their finished products and they should be!

Yesterday we spent a fun day shopping and doing dinner with Miss Taryn and Hudson. Of course we’ve spent lots of dinner times at the Fosters. We’ve also been to the doctor, gotten haircuts and dodged a hurricane. Plus we’ve really tried hard to read everyday but we have also had too much screen time everyday too. We’ve done lots of laundry and cleaned the kitchen 27 million times. And we topped off all that fun with some serious fun today!

I took Keagan and Riley to their very first Broadway Musical today! We went to see Aladdin downtown at The Hobby Center! It was an incredible show and we loved every minute of it! It was actually the sensory friendly/special needs friendly showing and a matinee. The genie was my favorite but both girls loved Jasmine the most! We took Mrs Lake, Avery and cute Livy with us and we met the Flores family their too so we were surrounded by friends! It was just awesome! Afterwards we enjoyed a quick but delicious dinner at Barnabys near by and just had the most memorable day!
