Nana’s Obituary

Our beloved Mother and Nana, Joan Edwards Ginn, was reunited in heaven with her adoring husband on April 11, 2021 after sepsis related to COVID-19.

She was born April 30, 1948 to Harold and Beth (Lyman) Edwards. She grew up in Milford, Utah the middle of seven siblings. She attended Brigham Young University, where she met Evan DeWitt Ginn, Jr. and fell in love. They married in the St. George LDS Temple June 7, 1968 and created a beautiful family that will last into the eternities. Together they had 5 children, 12 grandchildren, and an abundance of love and laughter in their lives.

Joan was a wonderful mother and Nana and a devoted member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. While doing all she could to support her family, she served many women in different church callings throughout her years. She inspired countless more to laugh, use their voices, and be empowered. She had a testimony of Jesus Christ, a deep sense of curiosity of all people, could talk to any stranger, and was full of compassion and wit. She loved God, her family, chocolate, quilting, reading, and finding a great deal while shopping. She was incredibly courageous as she battled depression for many long years and fought against the stigma of mental illness.

She is preceded in death by her dear husband Evan DeWitt Ginn, Jr., daughter Lori Ann Ginn, granddaughter Sara Ann Ginn, her parents, and brother. She is survived by her children Lisa (Todd) Foster of Lehi, UT, Tyler (Victoria) Ginn of Wilmette, IL, Kirk (Kari) Ginn of Austin, TX, Emily Kikuchi of Klein, TX, two sisters, and three brothers. Her beautiful legacy will live on in the hearts of her grandchildren Samantha, Makell, Evan, Kennedy, Addison, Maya, Kate, Campbell, Keagan, Riley, and Tess. Each one of her cherished grandchildren will be honored as her pallbearers.

Joan’s viewing will be Thursday, April 22, 2021 from 5:00-8:00 pm. Everyone is welcome to this open house, held at Klein Funeral Home16131 Champion Forest DriveSpring, TX 77379.

The private graveside service for family will be Friday, April 23 at Klein Memorial Cemetery.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Joan Ginn be made to Texas Children’s Hospital to support the neurology department. Visit texaschildrens.org/givenow or call the donation hotline at 832.824.6806 for details.

A Family Easter

If you would have told me even 2 months ago that we would be able to spend Easter with any of our family I would have laughed. With our family spread out across the country now, holidays together are a little hard to come by these days. But a week before Easter Lisa, Todd and Addie drove down to be here with Nana as she gets closer to returning to her Heavenly Father. They are staying with us of course and despite heavy hearts with all that is going on with Nana, we really had a beautiful Easter!

You know me and how I love traditions, so dying Easter eggs is always a must! But this year I found something super fun to switch it up a little and it ended up being a huge success! The Egg-mazing toy spins your hard boiled egg while you apply the dye. We all loved it and had some darling eggs to show for it!

The Easter Bunny came and brought his traditional swimsuits, flip flops, extra gifts and way too much candy! Oh and he threw in a farting noise machine that has been a huge hit! Funny thing is we couldn’t find Keagans Easter basket anywhere but one of Nana's typical black baskets was a good substitute.

We had a spirit filled day watching General Conference! I love when Easter falls on the first weekend of April so that it’s also General Conference weekend where we get to hear from the prophet and apostles and be flooded with testimonies of Christ! Also President Nelson announced 20 new temples! Afterwards we had an Easter Egg hunt in the front yard for Keags and Rys and we all worked together to make a yummy traditional Easter dinner.

Justin and Kristen joined us for dinner. At the end of dinner we did our traditional Holy Week eggs and worked together to retell the story of the greatest week in the history of the world! And then we went outside to do tons of confetti eggs to celebrate the empty tomb! There were lots of smiles and laughter but also SO much confetti!

For all of Holy Week we tried everyday to talk about what was happening in Christ’s life that first Easter week. Since our hearts are so tender right now it felt even more special to talk with Keagan and Riley about the Atonement, Crucifixion and especially the Resurrection of Jesus Christ. I am moved to tears every year (and often) by my Saviors sacrifice for me and that I know that He is risen! But this year as my mom is so close to seeing Him again it was extra tender and I said so many gratitude prayers. Almost a week later those feelings and that spirit still lingers and I am so thankful because in my grief I need it so desperately.

I know that my Redeemer lives!
What comfort this sweet sentence gives!
He lives, He lives who once was dead.
He lives, my ever living Head.
He lives to bless me with His love.
He lives to plead for me above.
He lives my hungry soul to feed.
He lives to bless in time of need.
