A Fantastic Start!

Remember that one time where my super generous brother Tyler and sister in law Vicki flew the girls and I out to Chicago for a week? Yep I definitely remember it and have a feeling that all of us are never going to forget it! This week in Chicago starts our crazy 3 weeks of traveling and we are off to a fantastic start!

Sunday morning Sa dropped us at the airport after Riley had been terrified for days about getting on the plane. She was pretty scared during take off and had me hold her for the first 30 mins of the flight but then her favorite paw patrol Sky helped her be super strong and brave and she warmed up. Keagan was as happy as could be to travel and was much more concerned about her new headphones and seeing her cousins soon then having to sit across the aisle from us.

We were so excited to see Vicki and Maya at the airport and Tess, Kate and Tyler back at their beautiful home after Tess’s softball game! But first we made a stop at a Chicago classic Portillos! We spent the afternoon and night just being together which was my entire goal of the trip! We chatted, laughed, teased each other like we do, told stories, played outside, ate dinner and then wrapped it up with a family movie together. When I saw Keagan and Tess cuddled up and Riley snuggled in close to Kate I thought “this is why we came!” I am SO thankful for this opportunity!

Today was a very full and a very fun day full of museums and cousins. Bright and early we went to the incredible museum of Science and Industry with Vicki, Tess, Kate and her sweet friend Olivia. We only scratched the surface of the vast exhibits but had a fantastic time! We saw the giant pinball machine, ran in a hamster wheel, and did several experiments including everyone’s favorite of seeing themselves as old people. We did the entire storms exhibit and marveled at the tornado. We saw the planes and trains and Keagan went on a flight simulator with the big girls and Tess. We did the farm exhibit, saw the amazing fairytell castle, had a blast playing in the fun idea factory exhibit and got thru a pretty scarey coal mining exhibit including a short ride on a coal train while Riley preferred Vicki holding her and Keagan and Tess held hands! Despite a little fear on that one, we really had so much fun!

For lunch we headed to Greek town and had the absolute best gyro I’ve ever had and a one and only pizza pocket! Yum!! While there I saw two of the most classic Chicago PD’s, we tricked Tess into drinking root beer and the girls started their games of manaquin challenge.

When we took Maya to the suburbs to volleyball, in that area we went to the most fantastic children’s museum with the three little girls, the Kohl Museum! They had an absolute ball at their second museum of the day! Their pretend game was strong as they ran “Sister’s Cafe,” a vet clinic, a home building site, a hospital nursery and a grocery store. They loved the interesting musical instruments, water works exhibit, creative games, the telephones, and the car wash was a hit! We were having so much fun they had to kick us out at closing!

I am trying very hard to keep Riley healthy for the weeks ahead so we stayed home for an early dinner while Keags went with everyone else to the Ridgemore Country Club to swim and eat. Riley was happy to fall asleep early and Keags was happy to do flips off the diving board and go down the slide with Tess. Then while Riley was dreaming, Keagan caught her first lightening bug and we all laughed and joked again until we were all exhausted!

We have only completed day 2 and we are loving it so far! We love the city of Chicago and all the fun things to do here but we mostly love being with our family that we don’t get to see often enough. Keagan and Tess are two peas in a pod, everyone just loves Riley and vice versa, and I have laughed SO hard already. I can’t wait to see what this trip will bring next!
